Permaculture Education Bus Seized by Twin Cities Police at RNC
POLICE SEIZE PERMIBUS
Please Post Far and Wide including any Media Contacts You May Have
At approximately 6:25 pm on August 30, 2008 Minneapolis Police, Minnesota State Troopers, Ramsey County Sheriffs, Saint Paul Police, and University of Minnesota Police pulled over the Earth Activist Training Permaculture Demonstration Bus (Permibus) by exit 237 on Interstate 94. Initially the police told the people on the bus to exit. When the people on the bus asked if they were being detained they were told that they were but police wereunable to provide justification. When asked why they pulled the bus over they refused to answer. After repeated requests to explain why the bus had been stopped Officer Honican of the Minneapolis Police explained that this was just a routine traffic stop though he did not explain the reason for the traffic stop. The police then told Stan Wilson, the driver and registered owner of the Permibus, that they were going to impound the bus in case they wanted to execute a search warrant later. After more than an hour of being questioned by Stan and Delyla Wilson as to the legalities of their detainment and the impoundment of the Permibus, the police then informed Stan that the bus, which is legally registered as a passenger vehicle in the state of Montana, was being impounded for a commercial vehicle inspection. Shortly afterward Sergeant Paul Davis, a commercial vehicle inspector arrived on scene. Despite the polices insistence that the reason for impoundment was for a commercial vehicle inspection the Permibus crew were not allowed to remove anything from the bus including computers, toiletries, and 17-year-old Megan Wilson’s shoes. The police finally allowed the animals to be removed from the Permibus before it was towed, leaving the Permibus family standing beside their chickens and dogs, homeless on the highway.
Ron Paul’s show will go on
St. Paul, MINNESOTA (CNN) — The convention for former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will go on as planned, the campaign said Sunday, despite the RNC’s decision to truncate their program.
With Hurricane Gustav approaching the Gulf Coast, Republicans announced that they would hold an abbreviated session Monday and determine the rest of the week’s schedule on a day-by-day basis.
Paul’s campaign said it decided to stick with their schedule because it didn’t want to have to turn down the 10,000 people expected to attend the three-day event.
The “Rally for the Republic” kicked off Sunday with a training class for those interested in learning the skills needed to be an activist, according to the convention’s Web site.
Why Are Mercenaries Being Contracted To Provide Security For Hurricane Gustav?
CNN is reporting that President Bush and Vice-President Darth Cheney will not attend the RNC because of Hurricane Gustav. Some believe it’s nothing more than a PR stunt, however, as we look behind the scenes, it is possible that something far more sinister is behind Bush and Cheney’s decision to forgo the Republican National Convention:
“This storm is dangerous,” he warned, urging residents to heed calls to evacuate.
After a briefing at FEMA headquarters, Bush said he would forgo an appearance at the GOP National Convention on Monday and will be in Texas instead.
The White House said Sunday that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney will not attend the Republican National Convention on Monday as planned because of Gustav. The president had been scheduled to address delegates in St. Paul on Monday night. MORE
As usual, CNN left out several details, some of which affect the residents of the Gulf Coast and could impact national security. President Bush stated he was heading for Texas “to meet with emergency workers and evacuees.” OK, that sounds somewhat reasonable, however, as we know, Michael Chertoff is making the decisions for FEMA and soon will be on his way to the Gulf Coast. I feel sure there is a collective sigh of relief that Bush won’t show his face at the RNC, but nothing in the CNN story has stated why Dick (Darth) Cheney won’t be at the RNC, nor do they indicate where our secretive Vice-President will be pulling the strings of his “shadow government.”
Police State RNC: A Nun and Eight Others Swept into Unmarked Van by Cops in Minnesota
UPDATE (12:34 PDT):: One of the 9 protesters arrested was a nun, seen being loaded into an unmarked blue van. The 9 were apparently trying to climb a fence near a church.

UPDATE: ColdSnap is reporting 9 arrests downtown near the Excel center and police massing all over the downtown core.
The National Lawyers Guild and Communities United Against Police Brutality have filed an emergency motion to stop the seizure of cell phones and cameras during the RNC.
The groups will hold a joint press conference at Hennepin County Government Plaza to discuss their application for an emergency injunction, according to a tweet issued by the ColdSnap Legal Collective.

On the cusp of the conventions, NIST issued an absurd report on WTC7, claiming that, for the first time in history, fire brought down a 47 story steel framed building, rewriting some basic laws of physics. The New York Times did mention that Richard Gage, AIA, founder of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth was dismissing the investigation as flawed, and acknowledged the growing numbers of skeptics who are not accepting the official version of what happened on September 11th.
The timing of the report is both a challenge and an opportunity for us to raise key issues, like the failure of NIST to address the abundant evidence that explosives were used to bring down the buildings, in the run up to the November elections.
Politicians urge to give 9/11 rescue workers full benefits
Hundreds of fallen heroes still aren’t getting the recognition they deserve, nearly seven years after 9/11, two politicians charged Sunday.
City Councilman David Weprin (D-Queens) and state Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) want the medical examiner to identify first responders who died as a result of their work at Ground Zero and reclassify them as victims of the terrorist attacks.
“Those individuals who spent many days, weeks and months at Ground Zero are heroes, and they should be recognized as such,” Weprin said.
Blackwater Gearing Up for Hurricane Gustav
Blackwater Worldwide is currently seeking qualified law enforcement officers and security personnel to potentially deploy to provide security in the possible aftermath of Hurricane Gustav. This is the first time Blackwater has mobilized under its controversial Homeland Security contracts. Blackwater did deploy security personnel to assist New Orleans in wake of Hurricane Katrina and this resulted in great controversy since it was the first time a private military corporation had deployed on US soil.
On Third Anniversary Of Katrina, Officials Aren’t Confident New Orleans’ Levees Can ‘Handle’ Gustav
Three years ago today, Hurricane Katrina made landfall upon New Orleans. The storm was tragically followed by an abysmal disaster response from the Bush administration and ultimately took the lives of nearly a thousand of the city’s residents.
Last week, President Bush appeared in New Orleans to say that “hope is coming back” to the city, due to $126 billion in disaster aid sent to the region in the last three years. As the Progress Report notes today, there is still mountains of work to be done, including “significant debris management issues,” a clean-up fraught with environmental issues, and vacant homes.
Today, Tropical Storm Gustav “threatens to become a hurricane and poses the biggest threat to New Orleans since the killer 2005 storm,” the AP reports. In an interview with CNN yesterday, Mayor Ray Nagin expressed concern about the sturdiness of the city’s levee system:
Well we are ready to evacuate. The big question is, which shape are our levees in. For all the work that the corps of engineers has done, is it going to be sufficient enough to handle what is projected to be a category 3 that right now is poised and pointed towards New Orleans?

Bruce Schneier: ‘No fly lists’ don’t protect anyone
The TSA is tightening its photo ID rules at airport security. Previously, people with expired IDs or who claimed to have lost their IDs were subjected to secondary screening. Then the Transportation Security Administration realized that meant that someone on the government’s no-fly list — the list that is supposed to keep our planes safe from terrorists — could just fly with no ID.
Now, people without ID must also answer questions from their credit history to ascertain their identity.
The TSA will keep records of who those ID-less people are, too, in case they’re trying to probe the system.
This might seem like an improvement, except that the photo ID requirement is a joke. Anyone on the no-fly list can easily fly whenever he wants. Even worse, the concept of matching passenger names against a list of bad guys has negligible security value.
Radiation touted to protect meat
Food safety experts are baffled why Ottawa has not yet allowed food producers to zap meat and produce with enough radiation to kill deadly bacteria that cause outbreaks of food-borne disease.
Health Canada said Wednesday it is considering approving meat irradiation by early 2009. But experts say the announcement, made in the wake of a nationwide listeriosis outbreak linked to ready-to-eat meats, is too late in coming.
“It’s become obvious that a catastrophe has to happen before the technology can move forward,” said Dennis Olson, a professor of animal science at Iowa State University and an international expert on irradiation. The technology involves exposing food to radiation, disrupting the DNA of bacteria, including listeria, which either kills them or renders them unable to reproduce.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved meat irradiation in 2000, after a 1993 outbreak of E. coli 0157, linked to fast food hamburgers, sickened 200 people and killed four children, Olson said.
Just last week, the FDA allowed the irradiation of spinach and bagged lettuce, which Olson said is in response to two E. coli outbreaks in 2006, in lettuce and spinach. Three people were killed and more than 250 people were made sick.
Critics say irradiation excuses food producers and governments from following safety protocols and are concerned it reduces the nutritional quality of foods or turns them radioactive.
Ottawa wanted U.S. to accept more lenient meat inspection regime
OTTAWA — The Canadian government strongly opposed tougher U.S. rules to prevent listeria and lobbied the United States to accept Canada’s more lenient standards, internal documents reveal.
Briefing notes prepared by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for an April 7, 2006, meeting with the board of directors of the Canadian Meat Council outline how both industry and the Canadian government were frustrated with the increased precautions the United States was demanding.
Specifically, Canada opposed daily inspection visits and the testing of finished products for Listeria monocytogenes.
Further, the documents show the CFIA agreed to the meat packing and processing industry’s request to end a 20-year-old practice of having inspectors issue reports and rankings on facilities. The Canadian Meat Council complained the reports were ending up in the hands of reporters through the Access to Information Act, leading to bad coverage.
Ron Paul: ‘There’s no difference’ between McCain and Obama
Former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has declined to endorse either John McCain or Barack Obama, and he told CNN’s Kiran Chetry on Thursday that he sees “no difference” between them because both espouse foreign policies that only create more threats to our national interests.
Chetry asked Paul, “Do you think it’s a valid argument … that a John McCain administration would be a four-year extension of the Bush administration?”
“Sure, but I think that’s what’s going to happen with Obama, too,” Paul replied. “There’s no difference.”
“Their foreign policies are identical,” Paul explained. “They want more troops in Afghanistan. They want to send more support to Georgia to protect the oil line there. Neither one says bring home the troops from Iraq from the bases — you know the bases are going to stay there, the embassy as big as the Vatican, that’s going to remain. So their foreign policies are exactly the same. They’re both very, very aggressive with Iran. So I would say there’s no difference.”
