We hear time and again how great democracy is, yet our politicians time and again refuse to listen to the majority. Not to mention, they manipulate facts and propagandize truth in order to try to spin public opinion in favor of their position. Does anyone really think that this legislation is meant to help the poor and the uninsured? If so, than that person does not understand history and has forgotten even recent events that have provided us with huge government boondoggles which have benefited no one except the already powerful elite. This legislation helps the banks and corporate insurance companies, guaranteed. These people couldn’t care less about you. They see themselves as smarter, better and more deserving than you, and that’s why they live above the law and feel they can dictate to you how to live regardless of what you think. READ MORE »

Will the Census Bureau share your personal information?
It has before, according to the Miami Herald:
• During the Civil War, the bureau provided maps annotated with 1860 census data to Union Gen. William T. Sherman, who used them to launch a war not on the Confederacy’s army but on its civilian population. The most infamous product of the Census Bureau’s assistance was Sherman’s march from Atlanta to the sea, a 300-mile swath of looting and destruction that would properly have been labeled a war crime if the Japanese or German armies had done it in World War II. Not that Sherman lost his table manners: Afterward, he sent a polite note thanking the Census Bureau for its maps and research. “Without them, I would not have undertaken what was done.”
• Early in the 20th century, the Census Bureau was virtually a field office of the Justice Department. Census data was used to help catch draft dodgers during World War I and to help round up left-wing immigrants for deportation during the Palmer Raids of the 1920s.
• In 2002 and 2003, the Census Bureau helpfully sent the Department of Homeland Security lists of ZIP Codes with high concentrations of Arabs, broken down by country of origin. But don’t worry! Homeland Security says it just wanted the information so it could make better airport signs.
• Most notoriously, the Census Bureau was at the heart of the internment of 110,000 Japanese Americans (two-thirds of them U.S. citizens) during World War II — and not at all reluctantly. Within five days of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the bureau had issued three reports using 1940 census data to pinpoint the Japanese-American population by state, city and county.
Lawmakers Eyeing National ID Card
Lawmakers are proposing a national identification card — what they’re calling “high-tech, fraud-proof Social Security cards” — that would be required for all employees in the United States.
The proposal by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-New York) and Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-South Carolina) comes as the states are grappling to produce another national identification card at the behest of the Department of Homeland Security. Virtually none of the states are in compliance with this Real ID program — adopted in 2005 — requiring state motor vehicle bureaus to obtain and internally scan and store personal information like Social Security cards and birth certificates for a national database.
New Hampshire Nannies: Why is The “Live Free or Die” State B
The always-expanding Nanny State does more than treat adults like children, it can also smother job creation—even in the “live free or die” state of New Hampshire. So as the national debate “pivots” from health care to jobs, Reason.tv suggests that politicians looking to”do something” about the stubbornly high unemployment rate first undo the regulations that ensnare entrepreneurs like Kim Ong.Ong’s parents brought her family from Vietnam to the United States in 1985. “They said this is a country of freedom, a country of opportunities,” recalls Ong, who took their words to heart and now owns Kim’s Spa & Nails in Derry, New Hampshire. When the recession hit she began looking for new ways to generate business. Her thoughts turned to a luxurious practice that’s popular in parts of Asia—fish pedicures.Ong spent over $6,000 to purchase fish and equipment, a big investment for the small business owner. However, her gamble paid off when she saw how much customers loved having their feet exfoliated by tiny fish. Soon Ong had a waiting list for this hip new service. But instead of hiring more employees, Ong hired a lawyer to plead her case to state regulators who questioned the safety and hygeine of fish pedicures. Unfortunately for Ong and her customers,New Hampshire’s Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics banned the practice. That’s right, the state that lets adults motorcycle without a helmet or drive without a seat belt won’t tolerate tiny fish nibbling at the dead skin on your feet. This is just one small example of a larger problem. Most people have no idea how many local, state, and federal regulations entrepreneurs struggle against, notes Adrian Moore, an economist with Reason Foundation. “Every day new businesses try to start but find out they’re not allowed to because of some regulation or it’s too expensive because of some regulation,” Moore says. And if the Nanny State is spreading into New Hampshire, the one place we thought was immune to it, we may all be in bigger trouble than we thought. “New Hampshire Nannies” is written and produced by Ted Balaker, who also hosts. Producer: Hawk Jensen; Associate Producer: Paul Detrick, Additional Camera: Meredith Bragg. Special thanks to Yvonne Hair & Nails in Alexandria, Virginia. Approximately 5.30 minutes long. A sweet problem: Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain
A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same.
In addition to causing significant weight gain in lab animals, long-term consumption of high-fructose corn syrup also led to abnormal increases in body fat, especially in the abdomen, and a rise in circulating blood fats called triglycerides. The researchers say the work sheds light on the factors contributing to obesity trends in the United States.
“Some people have claimed that high-fructose corn syrup is no different than other sweeteners when it comes to weight gain and obesity, but our results make it clear that this just isn’t true, at least under the conditions of our tests,” said psychology professor Bart Hoebel, who specializes in the neuroscience of appetite, weight and sugar addiction. “When rats are drinking high-fructose corn syrup at levels well below those in soda pop, they’re becoming obese — every single one, across the board. Even when rats are fed a high-fat diet, you don’t see this; they don’t all gain extra weight.”

Woman wishes Happy Meal a happy birthday
A Colorado woman recently celebrated the the first birthday of a burger and fries she’s been keeping on her office bookshelf.
“I bought a Happy Meal and then placed it on my office shelf, right behind me and my computer. It sat on my shelf for a year as a silent witness to our fast food industry,” wrote Joann Bruso on her blog, BabyBites.info.
Bruso is the author of the book Baby Bites: Transforming a Picky Eater into a Healthy Eater.
She said the Happy Meal, despite being left out for an entire year, hasn’t decomposed one bit.
Cancel the 2010 Commercial Seal Hunt
A record-low sea ice formation off of Canada’s East Coast spells disaster for harp seals, the primary target of the commercial seal slaughter. Harp seals need the sea ice to give birth to and nurse their pups, and they need the ice to remain intact until their pups are strong enough to survive in open water.
Protesters Cook Up Rally Against School Bake Sale Ban
Education advocates, parents and students held a “bake-in” rally at City Hall Thursday to protest the Department of Education law that bans the sale of homemade food during school fundraisers.
DOE officials said that the ban is part a larger movement to control childhood obesity, as it only allows certain pre-approved, packaged items with approved nutritional content to be sold in school vending machines.
Protesters, however, said that pre-packaged food is not a healthy alternative to homemade desserts.
“I’d rather eat cookies and brownies and all the things that the parents make instead of Doritos and Pop Tarts,” said one student.
“It’s not fair. Baked sales have always been an inexpensive, positive way for the community to get together to raise money for school programs, and to make that against the rules is not appropriate,” said another protester.

I doubt very much that anyone has ever accused me of being a Democrat. I don’t know of too many Democrats that adhere to the principles of freedom and individualism as I do. Sure, I share their anti-war views for the most part, but that’s just one issue. And the Democrats actually have a history of being the warring party. Well, I suppose that’s a bit unfair since Republicans have participated in their fair share of war mongering. Come to think of it, the vast majority of politicians are war mongers, not surprising when one remembers that war is the health of the state. These statists, these collectivists, think they know better than the rest of us and simply want to control our lives so they can milk us to their own benefit. It doesn’t much matter to them who dies in the process. But, I digress. READ MORE »
